Wool Honestly - The Bumby Blog
Maybe you stood at the door this morning holding a toque in one hand and a sun hat in the other. Maybe you guessed wrong yesterday and spent the afternoon carrying a tiny snowsuit. Maybe you’re just tired of dressing for a season that can’t decide what it is.
You’re not bad at this. Fall is genuinely hard. Once you strip away the guessing, it’s actually pretty simple.
Fall has one big problem
Four degrees at breakfast. Eighteen by lunch. A wind that shows up at four o’clock with no warning. It’s the one season where you can get it wrong in both directions before dinner, and every parent we know has.
Wool doesn't pick a side
Each wool fiber is hollow, with a tiny canal running through the middle. When it’s cold, that structure holds air and keeps warmth in. When the afternoon heats up, the same structure moves moisture away from the skin and lets it go as vapor. It works in both directions, which is exactly what a fall day asks for.
One layer can do more of the day
Wool is thermo-regulating, breathable, and moisture-wicking. In real life, that means fewer outfit changes, fewer layers stuffed into the bottom of the stroller, and fewer small arguments in the parking lot.
It doesn’t hold onto smells
Merino doesn’t hold onto stink the way synthetics do. Hang it by the door overnight, or give it a spritz of lanolin-rich refresh spray, and it’s ready for tomorrow. Less laundry, more life.
Washing doesn’t have to be a project
Machine wash when you can. Hand wash if that’s your jam. We’re here to make your life easier, not hand you one more high-maintenance thing.
Start with the part you want to solve
If the mornings are cold and the afternoons are warm…
Reach for one good wool layer instead of three of everything else.
If you’re not sure what size to pick, or little ones seem to outgrow everything overnight…
Take the Bumby Fit Finder. It’ll point you in the right direction.
If you’re cloth diapering or potty training…
Our Kids Bottoms are cloth diaper friendly and potty training friendly, in the same fabrics we use for our covers.
If you have absolutely no idea where to begin…
That’s fine too. Start with one good layer. Everything else is just figuring out what works for your family.
Everything we make is crafted in Canada from merino wool, a renewable fiber, and we hope some of it ends up in your drawer this fall, in the pile of things that are soft and easy and just work.
